The Cinema in India

Hello everyone! We have been plugging along here. Nothing too new to report, other than life keeps coming at us quickly! Brayden is getting back in the swing of things for school, and this week signed up for the MCAT and OAT (optometry admissions test)! On top of that, he is juggling a full courseload and work! Phew! On top of all that, he is doing an even better job at being the best husband in the world! (you may guess that Laura is the one writing this post...) Laura is staying busy with her job as well, although she is very glad to report she does not have homework to complete in the evenings. We have finally finished moving everything in, everything is put away in the right place and the pictures are on the wall, all in all we are feeling good. We would also like to announce two additions to the family...our new frogs! We are still trying to solidify names. Laura was thinking 'holmes' and 'watson' after two of our favorite literary heroes, and Brayden was thinking 'lazy' and 'bum' since our dear friends have a habit of freezing in one position without moving for long periods of time. We'll have to see what we end up with...

It's been fun to run into different people and have them ask us how our preparations are going...thanks for spreading the word! We are excited to announce that we are up to 50 CATARACT SURGERIES! Only 14 more to go to reach our goal! We are so grateful for the support that has been given to the people who will be served while we are in India, we can't wait to share stories and pictures of the people whose lives have changed thanks to our donor's generosity.

Bihar has a robust cinema industry for the Bhojpuri language. The industry took off in 2001 with the super hit Saiyyan Hamar ("My Sweetheart," directed by Mohan Prasad), which shot the hero of that film, Ravi Kissan, to superstardom. The extremely rapid success of the films has led to dramatic increases in Bhojpuri cinema's visibility, and the industry now supports an awards show and a trade magazine, Bhojpuri City,Bollywood cinema, including Amitabh Bachchan, have also recently worked in Bhojpuri films. which chronicles the production and release of what are now over one hundred films per year.

We found this clip from the movie  "Sasura Bada Paisa Wala", which translates to "My father in law, the rich guy." It's a funny musical scene with a catchy song that could be stuck in my head for hours...enjoy!
